Vision and Values

Vision, Ethics and Code of Conduct of HOSAHope Southern Africa

The vision of HOSA is to help the Poor, the Persecuted and Oppressed, the Disadvantaged, the Orphans, the Abused and the Hopeless in practical and sustainable ways through the message of Jesus Christ to bring about a lasting change, restoration and transformation of their personal lives as well as their communities. This goal is based on the promise of God in Isaiah 58:10-12 which reads:

“Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. The LORD will lead you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.”

As Christians from different denominational backgrounds we believe that each person is wanted, loved and equipped with talents by God. Therefore we treat the Poor, the Persecuted and Oppressed, the Disadvantaged, the Orphans, the Abused and the Hopeless with respect and appreciation. We are committed to show God’s love through word and deed.

Ethics and Code of Conduct

  • We acknowledge and confess the Nicene Creed1
  • We live as Christian service community.
  • As Christians we acknowledge that God has called us to love and serve people. Our ministry focuses on people who are marginalized by society irrespective of their nationality, ethnic or religious background.
  • People first.
  • In the same way as Jesus acknowledged the individual person in his / her situation and need, we want to live and work in this way as well. The focus of our work shall be the individual person, not an organisation, structure or finances. Structures are a means to an end.
  • We are good stewards.
  • We recognize the available resources as trusted gifts to be used to serve the people in South Africa according to our constitution. Being accountable to God and people we want to invest and use those resources responsibly as good stewards.
  • Partnership & Relationships.
  • We are seeking and maintaining partnerships and relationships to other like-minded organisations. Being an interdenominational Christian organisation we are seeking active partnerships and co-operations with communities, Christian churches and organisations as well as political institutions in order to achieve transformation, change and improvement for the people.
  • We are ready to face challenges.
  • Where we determine specific needs, we want to help quickly, flexibly and in an uncomplicated way, while at the same time achieving sustainable, long-lasting change in the communities and lives of the people we serve. We acknowledge that not every need is a task for us as an organisation and that we cannot meet every need we face.
  • We are committed to live and work according to these ethics and rules of conduct in order to serve the people in South Africa.

We seek for advice in our decision making processes, acknowledging that where there are many advisers, God will grant success.

The Nicene Creed1

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, light from light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father [and the Son],
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
